OBCI's Mission & Goals

OBCI Vision

"The successful conservation of birds and their habitats in Ohio"

OBCI Mission:

"Ensuring the conservation and effective management of birds in Ohio by fostering partnerships among governmental agencies, conservation organizations, businesses, and the public"

OBCI Goals:

  • Develop and coordinate initiatives for bird conservation
  • Develop broad-based partnerships to conserve birds and their habitats
  • Encourage landscape-oriented conservation efforts
  • Focus conservation efforts on common birds and species of conservation concern
  • Develop management strategies that are guided by sound science
  • Promote bird-based recreational opportunities
  • Communicate the value of birds and their conservation to the public, businesses, and governmental officials

The Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative coordinates the diverse skills and resources of its voluntary partners: governmental agencies, private organizations, businesses, and citizens that have an interest in conserving bird populations. Such partnerships are essential for the effective delivery of integrated bird conservation. OBCI requires no formal commitment to any specific actions by its partners. It does require a desire to deliver the full spectrum of bird conservation in Ohio through landscape-scale assessment and management, guided by sound science, using voluntary stewardship.
